Quinoa, pronounced ‘keen-wa’, is a great wheat-free alternative to starchy grains such as rice and couscous. While quinoa is usually considered to be a whole grain (such as rice, wheat and barley), it is actually a seed but can be prepared like a grain.
Grown in South America (Peru, Chile and Bolivia) for thousands of years, quinoa was an integral part of the diet of Incas and their descendants. It belongs to the same family as spinach, beetroots and chard and in recent years, has been hailed by foodies as a superior alternative to the likes of rice and couscous. This complete protein is rich in fibre as well as essential and non-essential amino acids.
Organax Quinoa Powder is Soil Association certified organic, meaning the seeds are cultivated free of pesticides, fertilisers and other contaminants.
Once dried, they are ground into a fine powder, ready for use.
